The
Cole Younger Band is led by singer/songwriter John Pollard who writes
all of the original music and lyrics. Each band member over the years
has contributed his own style to the unique arrangements. The music
you hear live incorporates a blend of folk, rock and country sounds
in the original and cover tunes, and carries the distinct signature
of each musician.
The
band takes its name, Cole Younger, from one of the members of the legendary
outlaw gang The Younger Brothers, contemporaries of Jesse & Frank
James. When the original CYB members were looking for a name for the
band, they found inspiration in a "Wanted" poster hanging
on a restaurant wall; thus the "Cole Younger Band" was born.
John subsequently became interested in the history of the James and
Younger gangs and began writing songs inspired by their infamous exploits.
Now the CYB repertoire has come to include a series of Younger-themed
tunes in addition to the vast collection of other JP originals.
The Cole Younger
Band, with its original members, began performing in the Newark, DE
area in the early 1980s, and since the band's inception a number of
different musicians have played with the CYB. The current members include
John Pollard on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Glen Walther on bass
guitar, Steve Hobson on lead guitar, Joe DiGiacomo on keyboards and
Bob Tobasko on drums. However, it's not unusual for a past band member
to make a special guest appearance.
The
Cole Younger Band has released two CD's -- "Ride On" and "Younger
All The Time".
A
new
Cole Younger themed CD "Should the Heavens Fall" is currently
in the works.
A smaller version
of the band, known as Pollard's Pharmacy can be seen year-roung in all
sorts of venues including the Wellwood Yacht Club in Charlestown, MD,
the Home Grown Cafe in Newark, DE and Booksandcoffee in Dewey Beach,
DE.
